Watching the Salmon Run in Lake Tahoe

Even though Lake Tahoe is only three and a half hours away from my California home, I hadn't been there in over ten years. So, when Peter and I were offered a free cabin for a couple of days there was no way I was turning down this getaway. Free is good. Besides it was salmon spawning season and I had my heart set on watching salmon porn. I am a voyeur like that. Taylor Creek has many beautiful sights,… Read More »

I’ve Been to Yoga Hell. It Was Really Hot.

I am not typically a big sweater. Even after a one-hour, high speed spin class or 45 minutes of Zumba, I won’t shed a drip. So, I questioned, what would happen to my sweat glands in a Bikram (Hot) yoga class? Is it be possible to remain dry in a 105 degree room with 40% humidity? I had driven by the Bikram Yoga Studio (AKA: Yoga Hell) in my hometown at least a hundred times. I was even a voyeur one evening peeking through… Read More »

A Pigs Ear at Plate Shop | Sausalito, CA

Apparently, eating dog treats is something that appealed to me so much that I had to make a special trip to Plate Shop in Sausalito just so I could have one. Regular, store bought kibble would just not do, I needed something that was actually prepared for humans. Pigs ears fit the bill.  I can't be the only one who seeks out restaurants who serves strange unique food…can I? Plate Shop's decor and smallwares exude trendiness, from the antique-inspired drop lighting to the steel napkin rings to… Read More »

Booze, BBQ & a Showdown at Seghesio Winery

A special invite to Seghesio’s 8th Annual BBQ was a welcomed excuse to play hooky from work, get buzzed mid-afternoon and not have to explain the shameful amounts of sauce dripping down my fingertips. At one point, I literally was looking down at the barbecue rib remnants on my upper arm. How’d that get there? For the past eight years, Seghesio has put on this event and I am quilt-ridden for the seven years prior I had missed. This year… Read More »

A Fourth Full of Muffulettas & Margaritas

What do you think of when you hear the 4th of July? Sparklers, bottle rockets & BBQ’s? How about award winning vino, poolside service and a band playing amongst Francis Ford Coppola’s stunning vineyard backdrop? That’s my kind of Independence, living the good life on Coppolas resort-style patio. Sipping my margarita. The one time I will make an exception to my “strictly a wine girl” claim.  Peter and I hesitantly decided to shut down our restaurant for this holiday, mostly because every employee… Read More »

Finding Peace at the Petrified Forest

It was the first sunny day after the longest winter in northern California and I wasn’t  about to waste it on the massive mound of laundry piling up on the bathroom floor. I had just gotten my new bucket list mobile, a Jeep Wrangler, and it was begging for a day trip on the country roads and who am I to argue? The itinerary included the Petrified Forest and Old Faithful Geyser, since I had been severely taking these backyard attractions for… Read More »
